TheNotary Publicin Florida have the authority to executejuratsin affidavits, depositions, and forms that require verification under oath or affirmation. Unlike acknowledgment, the jurat seeks to compel the signer to tell the truth under penalty of perjury (FS 117.05).

🔹 1. Purpose

The jurat certifies that the signer:

✅ Appeared personally before the notary (in physical presence or by permitted audiovisual communication).

✅ Was satisfactorily identified (personal knowledge or valid identification).

✅ Signed the document in the presence of the notary.

✅ Took an oath or made an affirmation that the content of the document is true.

🔹 2. Procedure

  1. The signer appears before the Notary Public.

  2. The notary confirms the identity of the signer.

  3. The notary administers an oath or affirmation.

  4. The signer subscribes (signs) the document in front of the notary.

  5. The notary completes thenotarial certificate of jurat.

🔹 4. Precautions

⚠️ A jurat based on a phone call or the notary's familiarity with the signature is not valid.

⚠️ The signature must be made in the physical or authorized virtual presence of the notary.

⚠️ An oath or affirmation must always be administered prior to the signature.

Affirmation:
